The population of Mongolia is at present 3 million. 51% of the total population lives in urban areas, density is 1.5 people per sq km. The present yearly rate of population growth is estimated as 2.8 per cent. There are 29 ethnic groups in Mongolia
Khalkha Mongol (81% of population), Kasakh (8%), several Mongolian tribes (Burjat, Durwut, Bayat, Dariganga, Zakhchin, Torgut). Four million Mongols live outside Mongolia. People under the age of 35. The average life expectancy is just over 65 year. The present urban population is above 1 million. In Ulaanbaatar having 800,000 inhabitants-one third of the total population of Mongolia
